Course Overview

The CPC31320 Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling provides a trade outcome in wall and floor tiling for residential and commercial construction work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, wall and floor tiling. Tilers work with materials like ceramic, glass, slate, marble and clay. They cut these materials and lay tiles on walls and floors, both interior and exterior. They may also add decorative touches to their basic work. 

Occupational titles may include: 

  • Tiler 
  • Wall and Floor tiler. 

State and territory jurisdictions may have different licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements. 

This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway. 

Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Course Structure

To be awarded the CPC31320 Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling, students must complete a total of 20 units:

The CPC31320 Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling is delivered over a total of 78 weeks, which includes:

  • 60 weeks of training and assessment
  • 18 weeks of scheduled breaks and holidays

This schedule is designed to allow time for study, reflection, and practical placement while maintaining a healthy work–life balance.

While there are no formal entry requirements specified in the national training package for this qualification, AEI Australia requires applicants to meet the following criteria to ensure readiness and success:

  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of course commencement
  • Have successfully completed Year 12 or equivalent, or hold another relevant qualification
  • Participate in a course entry interview to assess suitability and individual learning needs
  • Demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following:
    ✅  An IELTS score of 6.0 (no older than 2 years), or equivalent (e.g., PTE, TOEFL)
    ✅ Completion of at least 5 years of education in an English-speaking country
    ✅ Completion of a Certificate IV or higher-level course for at least 6 months in an Australian RTO
    ✅ Successful completion of AEI Australia’s English Placement Test

Applicants must provide documentary evidence to support their English language proficiency.
